The Twin Cities Polish Festival will have some interesting visitors this year along the banks of the Mississippi. Keep your eyes open for some Polish Winged Hussar re-enactors in full steel armor who will be mingling with the crowd.
The Polish Winged hussar was from the late 16th century to the early 18th the pinnacle of soldiery in Poland. Armed with a 5-meter lance, at least three different swords, sometimes a pair of pistols, and of course the ostentatious steel armor with tall wings mounted either on the saddle (in earlier times) or directly to the back of the armor, the sight of these knights alone was sometimes enough to send the enemy running.
